Often when I choose a subject to paint, I look for strong shadow patterns. But the appeal to me of this subject was the muted “grayness” of the scene and it’s urban grittiness. The black windows of the sooty apartment building are as anonymous, mysterious, or private as the shade-pulled windows of the permanently parked old RV.
