On one of our trips across the West, we found ourselves in the old mining town of Tonapah in Nevada.  At 6:30 on a Saturday night, the only hotel in town that still had a few rooms left was an original hotel established in the silver rush to Tonopah around 1900.  Called the Mizpah Hotel, it was indeed a grand old western hotel , complete with a beautiful saloon on the first floor.  After checking in to our room, I took my camera out into the street to record the weathered side of the hotel in the fading daylight.  Huge letters above the hotel declared its existence, and below them was a gently chipped painted brick wall that repeated the name.  The shadows and angles of overhangs and corners made for an interesting painting.
