This is a painting of a school bus stop near Chiricahua National Monument in Arizona. It was a raw and windy day when I saw it, and it was in a part of the countryside that had only a few trailers or houses scattered across the vast plains. It looked like it would be a pretty hardscrabble place to live and this metal bus shelter seemed to attest to that. And yet there was a beauty in the lonely landscape that couldn't be denied, a small reward perhaps to offset the struggle to put food on the table.
